🌈Letting students tell other students what to do is my favorite form of torture. 😅😭 🌈 This is an actual student quote - he said it to me in a group class and I almost chocked with tears and laughter. 😂 Peer-learning is HARD because the students need to learn from one another and teach one another, and depending on the group it won’t come so naturally. Sometimes specific learning methods need to be explicitly taught until the students start applying it by themselves. This activity here worked like this: 1️⃣ I randomly pick out the first student to demonstrate how to do the activity and start the circle. I tell them what to wear and how to design their game avatar hair, face, and body. 2️⃣ They get a task to pick out another student and then come to them, and tell them how to design the avatar. 3️⃣ They use polite grammar structures, usually questions. Can you… Could you… Do you want to… They patiently wait for the other studnent to confirm that they like their idea and they then edit their avatar. 4️⃣ While we are doing this, other students independently explore our game world. 5️⃣ We say ‘’CHEESE’’ and take photos of our avatars for our avatar shelf! 💚By the end of the activity, everyone has their own avatar, they designed it together, did it by themselves, and even the shy students got a chance to speak without the pressure of the teacher.💚 🎯As a teacher, how do you apply peer-learning in your classroom? 🎯🎯As a parent, do you see the benefit of student-led activities? #englishforkids #englishforchildren #speakingpractice #onlineenglish #onlineenglishforkids
