Official visualiser for Ken Boothe's chart-topping version of Bread's pop hit, 'Everything I Own' . Boothe's beautiful version of the track entered the UK chart on September 21st In an interview with Jamaican Swing magazine in 1975, Ken explained his decision to immediately travel to Britain as soon as the record broke: ‘When I heard that the record had made it in the charts, I decided to go to England to be available for live performances and such, because I had exploitation at the hands of various local and UK producers before and I knew that my presence would help push the record and at the same time, protect my interests.’ Ken’s rendition of Everything I Own finally climbed to the number 1 spot on the UK chart on 26 October 1974, staying at the position for three weeks, ultimately spending a total of 12 weeks in the national Top 50. Written by David Gates in memory of his father who passed away in 1963 before the singer-songwriter's success with Bread. Gates later recollected that the song's title originated from a time when he had very few possessions, but sent his mother an orchid for her birthday, an act that so moved her that his father told him that he could have had “anything she owned“ in return of the gift.
