Herbivores by nature, hippos move onto land at night to graze on grass. While they may be solitary at times, they are often found sharing waterholes with large pods of their own kind. The interactions between elephants and hippos are intriguing. Though they may tolerate each other, hippos can display territorial behaviour in the water, while elephants, being larger and more powerful, usually stand their ground. While interactions can be tense, these two iconic species generally coexist peacefully. In many traditional African cultures, elephant dung has practical uses beyond its natural role in the ecosystem. The carers offer insights into how elephant dung is used to help with ailments, such as labour pains and nosebleeds. Additionally, dung serves as a natural fertiliser for crops, and some communities even use it to create building materials. #everyelephantneedsaherd
