In this video, you will see the latest news about the volcanic eruption threat in Iceland. The Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management has declared a state of emergency on the Reykjanes peninsula, where a series of powerful earthquakes have rocked the area. More than 800 earthquakes have occurred since November 10, 2023, with some measuring over 5.0 in magnitude. The seismic activity has caused ruptures and cracks in the roads and buildings, and raised fears of a possible magma movement and a volcanic eruption near Mt. Thorbjörn. Authorities have ordered thousands of residents living in the southwestern town of Grindavík to evacuate as a precaution. The U.S. Embassy in Reykjavik has also issued a volcano alert for American citizens in the area, and advised them to follow the recommendations of the Icelandic authorities. The flight operations at Keflavik International Airport have not been affected, but the aviation color code has been raised to orange, indicating a heightened unrest
