5th installment of Jazz Accordion Solos! Highly praised by many jazz critics, Leon Sash became the first jazz accordionist to appear at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1957. His performance was well received and lead to the album “I Remember Newport“ soon after with his live festival performance on one side and pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi and her trio on the other. His first recordings were a series of 78s for EmArcy gathered on an LP in 1954 called The Master (EmArcy). This first single, the above track “Leon the Lion“ is a great illustration of Sash's creativity (he even throws in a couple LEFT HAND bass solos for good measure). His chordal solos are dense and full, reminiscing of a full out big band! Join us on FB, YouTube, Instagram and Soundslice to stay updated & show your support!
