It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 over the summer. The subsequent arrival of her ‘hungover’ album proved that where there’s smoke there’s fire. Tracks such as the simmering power ballad “nicotine” and rollicking “better be tough” recall the outlaw versatility of Miranda Lambert and pop capabilities of Kacey Musgraves. A couple years back, Ella moved from Hope Hull (pop. 4,000) to the Mecca of music, Nashville, where she paid dues at bars, honkytonks, and local festivals. Word spread about her ‘Excuse The Mess’ EP, and soon opening slot invites were rolling in from Jon Pardi, HARDY, Morgan Wallen and Luke Bryan.
