Inferior alveolar nerve block is the most commonly anesthetic technique used in dentistry. It is also of interest for anesthetists, as it could be used effectively to produce anesthesia and analgesia for many surgical procedures involving areas of its sensory distribution,. These areas include the chin , the lower lip and its mucous membrane , the body of the mandible and part of its ramus . The lingual nerve often gets anesthetised in the same block procedure due to its close proximity , producing anesthesia of the anterior two thirds of the tongue as well as the floor of the mouth.
