A young Giancarlo Fisichella takes his Minardi around the Imola circuit during qualifying for the 1996 San Marino Grand Prix, his third Formula 1 race. He ultimately improved his time by 0.7 seconds from this run to qualify in nineteenth place on the grid (despite losing a wing mirror and his dashboard display), four tenths behind Pedro Lamy but ahead of Ricardo Rosset’s Footwork and the two Fortis. He retired from the race after 30 laps when his engine cut out without warning.
