Focus on a peculiar region of Portugal throughout several portraits of its inhabitants and their works to preserve it. Madeira is Portugal's autonomous region in the Atlantic, closer to the African Coast than to its mother country. It lies at a distance of 900 km from Portugal the island was named by the Portuguese Sailors who claimed the uninhabited territory for themselves in 1419.
