On 14 June 1999, just three days after the end of the Kosovo War, ITN filmed the German contingent of NATO's Kosovo Force (KFOR) as it crossed the border into Kosovo from Albania. The KFOR troops, led by Brigadier General Helmut Harff, were tasked with keeping the peace in the city of Prizren, where sporadic clashes between departing Serbian soldiers and civilians and returning Kosovan Albanians were ongoing. NATO troops were welcomed as liberators by Kosovan Albanians, who waved American flags and chanted “NATO! NATO! NATO!“ at the German soldiers. The NATO troops in turn tried to prevent violent outbursts escalating into bloodshed as angry civilians threw insults and rocks at convoys of departing Serbians. #Kosovo #KosovoWar #NATO #Prizren #1999 #Yugoslavia #Kosovan #Albania #Serbia #Albanian #Serbian #KFOR To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: To search the ITN Archive collection on Getty Images, follow the link below: 🎥 Subscribe to our YouTube channel (tap the bell icon and stay up to date with all the latest ITN Archive videos!) - @ITNArchive 🎥 Follow us on Twitter - 🎥 Like us on Facebook - 🎥 Check out our TikTok - @itnarchive1955
