This Australian had a whale of a time when he got the hump. Well, actually he could have been killed. Jason Breen was windsurfing when a humpback whale decided that it was going to breach, and the best place to do this was right under his feet. The enormous mammal emerged from the dark deep right under his surfboard, knocking him into the sea. The whale rose high into the air above him in the blink of an eye, and then crashed back into the sea, landing directly on top of Breen. And his board. Which he was tethered to. Down 5ft. Down 10. Down 20. Down 30. It looked as if the surfer had bought a one way ticket to Davy Jones’ Locker, and there wasn’t even a buffet car. Then, either by divine providence or low-cost manufacturing, his leash broke. He floated back to the surface just in time for air, while the whale made its way back to the bottom of the ocean. Or the 23rd century. ‘So yeah, lucky to be here,’ he told local media.
