Pasquale Amato (1878-1942) made his operatic debut in his native Naples in 1900, and came to the Met in 1908. He sang there until 1921. He went on to sing 36 roles at the Met, in 610 performances. Specializing in the popular Italian repertoire of the day, he was much admired, not only for the power and resonance of his voice, but also for his diction, style and general artistry.
