TUBEROUS BEGONIA DISPLAY BALLARAT BOTANICAL GARDENS MARCH 2022. In autumn the City of Ballarat is famous for the Begonia Festival. The March long weekend is the Begonia Festival, lots of activates and events associated with the festival. The festival started back in 1953 by local Ballarat residents, who were keen to highlight and celebrate the growing post-war prosperity of their town and the local region. The Robert Clark Conservatory Tuberous Begonia display must be one of the best public exhibitions of Tuberous Begonias. Today the Tuberous Begonia collection holds 207 varieties of upright Tuberous Begonias and 38 pendula types.
