The surprising reason for why this woman feels lonely

After WWII, many countries, scarred by the war, implemented strict measures to ensure peace and stability, often at the expense of spontaneity and open communication among their people. This hindered the healing of post-war wounds, fostering an environment of mistrust and isolation. We see this play out at the individual level within this woman. When I asked her how she felt about feeling lonely, she replied, “I wouldn’t say I really know anything else. It’s been life here.” This conversation reminded me of the importance of building community and fostering safe, open dialogue.
