Gianluca Cascioli - Piano A piece about the Roman festival in honour of the god Neptune, (before it fused with the greek Poseidon), held on the 23rd of July. The first section (Umbrae, inspired by the music of Morton Feldman, refers to the rite of building huts of branches and foliage; the second (Libagioni) portrays the feasts, dancing and drinking that happened inside; the last section (Estasi) is the final ecstasy of the celebration. The whole piece utilizes a short theme from the orchestral suite The Planets by Gustav Holst, found at the beginning of the last piece, Neptune, the Mystic. This Leitmotiv for the god himself, is reworked in different ways and applied to Alberto Colla's concept of Concinnitas. It is based on a Hexachord later enriched by three notes, thus yielding a nine-note set of limited transposition (Messiaen's III mode).
