The U.S. Navy achieved operational certification of the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System (AAMDS) site at Deveselu Air Force Base in Romania, May 12, 2016. This officially fulfills Phase II of the European Phased Adaptive Approach, a plan to protect deployed US forces and European allies from ballistic missile attack.
