#bengalclassicalmusicfestival Pt Ulhas Kashalkar, the doyen of Indian classical music was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and took his first lessons from his father N D Kashalkar. While studying music at Nagpur University he trained under the noted gurus Rajabhau and P N Khardenavis. He is one of the few vocalists who mastered the three distinctive styles of Gwalior, Jaipur and Agra gharanas. His capacity to consolidate the intricacies of the various forms and the rare ability to switch between the three styles in the course of a single performance, lends a special dimension to his music. At the fourth session of the Bengal Classical Music Festival held in Dhaka in 2015, Pt Ulhas Kashalkar’s performed Raag Lalit and Bhairavi. His great fluidity and an unparalleled immersion in the music held the audience spellbound.
