Communities Secretary, Michael Gove, is set to produce a new official definition of extremism within days, the Government's new definition will replace one in the existing Prevent counter-radicalisation programme, giving “more specificity“, and will enable the Government and other public bodies to ban funding and engagement with Islamist and far-right groups. The proposed change in legislation comes following protests from pro-Palestine and climate action groups, with Mr Gove warning today the “good-hearted people“ who have taken part in pro-Palestine marches should be aware they could be “lending credence“ to extremists. In this monologue Sangita Myska runs through the 'rhetoric' from politicians in the last few years. 2:12 | Liz Truss called environmental protesters 'militant activists'. 3:35 | Suella Braverman called for new legislation on public order and accused Labour of 'encouraging extremists' to disrupt society. 4:28 | Tory MP Gareth Johnson called for Just Stop Oil to be designated a 'proscribed terrorist organisation'. 5:15 | Jacob Rees-Mogg said that marches calling for a ceasefire were allowing extremists to 'thrive'. 5:36 | Former Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick said that pro-Palestine protesters 'did not represent british values'. 5:56 Suella Braverman wrote an article in whch she said Islamists were in charge of Britain, Lee Anderson weighed in. 6:31 | Rishi Sunak held a press conference where he said the behaviour of some protesters 'threatened democracy'.
