Maps to Nowhere: Chasing Seconds has kinda stopped the clock as far as crazy right-hand tuberiding goes in 2024. That’s all it took: Caity and Timo Simmers and Soli Bailey, all by themselves, and a sandbar warping into the middle distance, getting better by the day. But there’s always a heap of clips we can’t keep in an episode, so here we go with Caity’s B-Sides from the black sand insanity. This is a simple string-out of the best stuff you haven’t yet seen from the sessions. It’s fascinating to watch, as Caity’s surfing visibly changes to fit both the wave and her own evolving sense of what’s required. She starts out charging, but catching nose rails in the wave base. Then a day and a half later, she’s controlling speed in the tube, smoothly fading into tube stalls and graceful exits. If you want to understand how quickly a person can grow as a surfer, this is a great way to start. “The best part of this trip was just getting barrelled, just being in the barrel,” Caity said. “”It was just what you dream of on a surf trip. You are surfing perfect waves all day and you’re just so tired and depleted, but you kind of have to go back out. Like there was a couple points where I literally could barely move — I think I said in one of the interviews, we were testing the human body to see how how far it could go, ’cause I was so tired. Getting to surf perfect waves all day and eating peanut butter sandwiches on the beach and then going and surfing more.” ----------------------------------- Subscribe: Become a Surfline Premium Member: ----------------------------------
