The film uses the device of a family visit, involving a family called the McKennas, to propel its narrative. The McKenna family has a historical link to the nation of Chile: Brigadier Juan Mackenna (b. 1771) was an Irish-born, Chilean military officer and hero of the Chilean War of Independence.
