Chilean submarines departing the US for home. The six 'H' Class submarines originally ordered for the Royal Navy departing the US for delivery to Chile. These boats were ordered by the RN from the Fore River Yard of Quincy, Massachusetts. When launched they were interned by the US which was still neutral. On 3July 1917 the boats were transferred by Britain to Chile in part payment for two battleships that had been appropriated by Britain at the start of the war. Submarine No 5 (nearest camera) was ordered as H19. Chile renamed as H5, then in 1924 it was renamed again as Quidora. H2, also seen in shot, was ordered as H16. Renamed in 1924 as Tegualda.
