In this promotional video from the 1950’s our narrator guides us on a tour of Appalachian State University, then called Appalachian State Teachers College. Some ASTC history is shared and we are introduced to notable staff members of the day including Dr. J.D. Rankin, College President W.H. Plemmons and Vice President Bernard Dougherty. We follow incoming freshmen Pat Dowling and Bruce Trammell as they register for and attend a variety of classes tailored to perspective teachers. The two study in Anne Belk Library. They learn about audiovisual equipment and recreate on the tennis courts and in the Olympic sized swimming pool before enjoying the bookstore soda shop. The High Country’s scenic beauty is showcased with a trip to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Caverns. Tweetsie Railroad and Horn in the West are also shown. Footage from the Homecoming parade and the football game can be seen. We are given a glimpse into the college reading center, a physics lab as well as home economics and business classrooms
