This is footage of Ballets Russes principal dancer Serge Lifar (1905-1986) performing a solo, in a folkloric tradition, of his own creation. It was filmed in Cannes in 1938. Whatever one’s opinion of Serge Lifar on any level, the footage is an historic record of a principal dancer from the Serge de Diaghilev era of the Ballets Russes.
