Blender 4.0 introduced using Edge Float attributes for bevel weights. It's basically “edge groups“, just by a different name. I did a small fork of 4.1 to allow bevel modifiers to use custom edge attribute groups. This lets us do a non-destructive bevel workflow! Great for hard surface modeling.
