Warigeiko, Divided Practice – 5 Chasentoshi sono ichi: Examining the whisk before making tea Before making tea, I carefully examine the chasen, the tea whisk, to make sure there are no broken parts. I lift up the chasen twice and tap it three times. This is called, “Nido-age, Sando-uchi.” (From the side) As I lift the chasen up and down, I rotate it inward to see it from all directions. Whisking the chasen in the bowl, I draw a clockwise circle, and pull it out from the bowl. (Close up – whisking sound) Chasentoshi sono ni: Rinsing the whisk after making tea After making tea, I rinse the chasen with clean water.
