High pressure is dominating NZ but low pressure is certainly trying to have a go at moving in. This week has windy nor’westers returning, lifting temperatures for many in the east over the coming day or two. But going into the weekend a low from the Tasman Sea may get involved, splitting two nearby high pressure zones apart and bringing some wet weather into the NZ area for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We take a look the risks for wet weather around NZ over the coming 8 days - and remember the Christmas Day forecast is not yet locked in, we expect by Wednesday this week to have a more certain outlook for many places. We have regular updates this week and will update Christmas and Boxing Days each day we update - but this is our last week of regular videos for 2023. Video Programming Notes: - Daily Videos Monday to Thursday this week (we have NO VIDEO on Friday) - Our final 7 Day Pacific Islands update will be out tomorrow (Tuesday December 19). These videos will return in one month (but please note if any major cyclone forms and poses a threat to land we’ll likely have a special update) - Our Australia-only 7 Day Forecast is back this WEDNESDAY (one day earlier than we usually post) - and again next THURSDAY week (Dec 28). - Next week we have videos only on Thursday and Friday as we lead up to New Year’s Eve.
