Rescue operations were ongoing at inundated alleyways in China’s southern Fujian province, video from Monday (July 17) showed, after a major typhoon struck and caused widespread flooding across the region. Footage from the Fuzhou Fire Department showed residents being ferried across the city’s flooded roads, where the outer reaches of Typhoon Talim had caused heavy rainfall, according to the Fujian Meteorological Bureau. Reuters was able to confirm the location of the videos as Fuzhou, Fujian province, China from the nearby buildings, signage and which matched satellite and file imagery of the area. Talim, the first typhoon to make landfall in China this year, struck the coast late on Monday night in Guangdong province, quickly weakening into a tropical storm.
