The forage maize harvest in the East of the Netherlands this year is far from easy due to frequent rains that have plagued farmers throughout the 2024 season. We meet up with contractor Nikkels who are salvaging a maize crop with a unique outfit. Their Vredo VT4556, normally used for slurry application, is fitted with a high lift silage box to transfer maize from the field to awaiting silage trailers. A John Deere 6215R with Schuitemaker silage trailer can also enter the field thanks to its driven axles. The forage maize (or corn if you like) is chopped by a Claas Jaguar 960 using a Orbis 750 attachment. For road transport a further Claas Axion 920 and Fendt 724 Vario S4 are present using Kaweco Radium-250 silage trailers. On the clamp is 'The Giant' with a JCB loading shovel. More?
