2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Starting at $ Highs: Loaded with off-road goodies, cool T-top roof panels, way quicker than you'd expect from an SUV this size. Lows: High-end models are expensive, plasticky interior materials kill the vibe, lifting cargo into the back takes muscle. Verdict: With the off-road capability and unapologetic attitude you expect from a Hummer, GMC's ultra-quick, highly capable adventure-mobile does its namesake proud. Overview The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is an all-electric reimagining of one of the most iconic, bad-ass off-road machines of the last century. While the Hummer brand now lives under the GMC umbrella, its unmistakable design, and remarkable off-road capabilities are faithfully upheld in EV form. In fact, the latter will arguably be even more impressive thanks to the SUV's advanced technology, incredible power output, and innovative features, including four-wheel steering, enabling the much-ballyhooed crab mode. The most interesting aspect of the reinvented Hummer is its Ultium battery tech, which provides quick charging times and a massive battery pack that provides an estimated range of 300-plus miles. Inside the cabin, it is visually identical to its pickup-truck counterpart, with a mix of high-tech content and removable roof panels that create an open-air experience. What's New for 2024? Following in the tire marks of the new Hummer EV pickup, which launched in 2023, the SUV version offers a different body style with a shorter wheelbase. The first Hummer EV SUVs will begin reaching GMC dealerships in early 2023. Pricing and Which One to Buy The price of the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV starts at $ and goes up to $ depending on the trim and options. Hummer EV2: $79,995 Hummer EV2x: $98,845 Edition 1: $105,595 Hummer EV3x: $106,945 EV Motor, Power, and Performance Based on the Hummer EV pickup truck–and hinted at by the superscript in their model names–the SUV version will be powered by two or three electric motors. The EV2 and EV2X have a dual-motor setup that generates an estimated 625 horsepower and what GM is claiming to be 7400 pound-feet of torque. The EV3X and the Edition 1 have a trio of motors (one up front and two out back) with a claimed 830 ponies and 11,500 pound-feet. However, we've already explained why those incredible torque claims are misleading. We expect actual maximum torque ratings to range between 1000 and 1100 pound-feet. In our testing, the most powerful Hummer EV SUV hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, which is seriously quick for a machine this big and heavy. Compared with the pickup truck, the SUV has a shorter wheelbase (126.7 inches versus 135.6), which should make it more maneuverable in parking situations and out on the trails. It'll also inherit our favorite off-road goodies from the truck version, including four-wheel steering with CrabWalk and an adjustable air suspension with Extract mode that can raise it 6 inches. GMC also pulls at our heartstrings with a full-size spare tire mounted on the rear gate. Plus, there's an optional Extreme Off-Road package that brings special hardware that includes 18-inch wheels on 35-inch all-terrain tires, extra underbody protection, low-mounted cameras for improved visibility while maneuvering, enhanced axles with heavy-duty components, a locking front differential, and rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked diff.
