#JeffKendallWeed #FlatPedals #MTBMythBusting When riding flat pedals on a mountain bike, many folks claim to be “scooping” the bike up with their feet when bunnyhopping. Rather than “scooping, “ the term “unweighting” makes sense to me, as my feet are NOT lifting the bike at all. The term “scooping” made no sense to me, as it always seemed impossible to actually “scoop” the bike via a flat pedal. Charged with the challenge of putting this terminology to rest, I wanted to try building some flat pedals with a very low coefficient of friction- as well as with a shape that fully prevented any sort of actual “scoop” of the bicycle. I’ve always simply unweighted my feet by pulling them up towards my body- the skill of this is in pulling them up at the right speed, so that they don’t come up faster than the pedals, but fast enough that they don’t limit the bike’s upwards momentum- same as your rear foot when you ollie on a skateboard.
