Figure skaters praised the Olympic rink after day one at the Asian Open Trophy which served as a Beijing 2022 test event. Yuma Kagiyama of Japan nailed a quad salchow and quad toe loop en route to after men's short programme. Kaori Sakamoto landed all three of her jumps to take the women's top spot in , while compatriot Mai Mihara was second ahead of Friday's free skating.
