Thousands of rail passengers have had their Christmas getaways thrown into chaos after Storm Pia and a sudden strike by Eurotunnel staff left trains stranded across the country. Large crowds have formed on the concourses of London King’s Cross and London Euston after trains between the capital, northern cities and Scotland were cancelled or delayed en masse for eight rail operators amid damaged overhead wires and speed restrictions.
