The palace was constructed for the Muslim Charity Society at the expense of the wealthy oil baron Agha Musa Naghiyev in commemoration of his deceased son Ismayil, who died young of Tuberculosis. Legend has it that Naghiyev sent Pล‚oszko on a long tour of Europe in search of inspiration. This was Pล‚oszkoโ€™s first independent project during the 30 years he lived in Baku and remains his most iconic. During the March Days in 1918 the building suffered damage from fire and warfare.
