The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels called for the mass protests which come as the latest Israel-Hamas war, now into its 11th day, continues. The Houthis have controlled the capital, Sanaa, and much of the north since 2014. The Israeli military has pounded Hamas-ruled Gaza with airstrikes, blocked deliveries of food, water, fuel and electricity and told people to leave the northern half of the strip ahead of a possible ground invasion. More than a million people have fled their homes in the Gaza Strip ahead of an expected Israel invasion that seeks to eliminate Hamas’ leadership after its deadly incursion. Aid groups warn an Israeli ground offensive could hasten a humanitarian crisis. The war that began Oct. 7 has become the deadliest of five Gaza wars for both sides. Since conflict began earlier this month, Gaza authorities say 2,800 people have died and 11,000 have been injured during days of bombardment. More than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed, and at least 199 others, including children, were captured by Hamas and taken into Gaza, according to Israel.
