Bayern Munich v Liverpool 23/07/1987

Highlights of Dieter Hoeness's testimonial match between Bayern Munich (including guest player Søren Lerby) and Liverpool at the Olympic Stadium in Munich in July 1987. Hoeness had retired at the end of the 1986/87 season after 8 years with Bayern. This was Liverpool's first pre-season match before the 1987/88 season, and therefore marked the first appearances of John Barnes and Peter Beardsley who had signed for the club that summer. Another couple of interesting things to note - John Aldridge making a rare appearance in the number 9 shirt before switching to his preferred 8 (in honour of his hero, Roger Hunt), and the Liverpool line up for this match is identical to that which started the season against Arsenal a few weeks later.
