Bubsy 3D was among one of the first 3D platformers to ever be created, releasing in November of 1996. Due to this, 3D platforming gameplay and controls had yet to be standardized, meaning that developers Eidetic had to create their own vision for how platforming would work in the 3rd dimension. Unfortunately for them however, both Super Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot hit store shelves mere months before Bubsy 3D had released, causing Bubsy to already both look and feel extremely outdated in comparison to its rivals. At the time however, Bubsy 3D still received quite a large number of positive reviews, largely as this was still a new concept and so people weren't really sure what to expect from 3D games. Over time though, reception for this game has gotten worse and worse, and many people now look at Bubsy 3D as being one of the worst games of all time. -------------------------------- Intro - 0:00:00 Level 1: Claws for Alarm - 0:03:22 Level 2: Clawstrophobic - 0:07:19 Level 3: Catatomic Catastrophe - 0:09:10 Level 4: Woolie Bully - 0:12:22 Level 5: Missing Lynx - 0:15:36 Level 6: Dome Sweet Dome - 0:18:29 Level 7: Das Bobcat - 0:27:35 Level 8: Domicidal Maniac - 0:29:36 Level 9: Crimson Hide - 0:39:10 Level 10: Dome Home - 0:40:30 Level 11: Mortal Bobkat - 0:49:48 Level 12: Zzzotz Nice - 0:51:24 Level 13: Daze of Thunder - 0:58:53 Level 14: Woolieville Horror - 1:03:42 Level 15: Runaway Woolie - 1:17:39 Level 16: Bright Light Big Woolies - 1:22:38 Level 17: Escape From WooL.A. - 1:35:43 Level 18: The Final Stretch - 1:42:40 Ending (Bad) - 1:51:28 Ending (Good) - 1:54:22 -------------------------------- Footage of this game makes it look a lot easier than it actually is, largely because the controls just don't respond how they should. There's almost a delay with inputs which makes it hard to make precise movements, and any momentum that Bubsy gains makes it quite difficult to make him stop as he will continue running for a bit even when pulling back the stick. I ended up cutting out a lot of gameplay in this one, purely because of the insane amount of deaths that were occurring. A lot of levels I would restart after playing for a while as I was either lost, stuck or just dying too often, other times I would cut out a few deaths if I was dying at the same checkpoint too often, as it was repetitive to watch. Overall I probably died maybe 70-80 times? As a result, you might notice that the “lives“ counter at the top doesn't quite match up with the on-screen deaths... it's for your own good 😅
