The Greek prime minister’s government has come under fire for its failure to deal with yet another natural disaster, as the death toll from severe flooding in central Greece rises to 10 and the extent of the disaster remains unclear. With entire villages under water, rescue teams using helicopters, boats and bulldozers continued to evacuate residents from rooftops on Saturday amid fears the number of missing could rise sharply. Local media reported apocalyptic scenes with corpses floating in the water. The flooding follows large-scale wildfires in the Athens area last month, which also prompted accusations of inadequate disaster preparedness. The torrential downpours turned torrents into raging rivers that breached dams, washed away roads and bridges, and swept cars into the sea. In several villages, mudflows reached the roofs of houses. The Thessalian plain, which accounts for more than 25 percent of the country’s agricultural production, has practically turned into a huge lake. Flooded
