So here's a gadget that I myself really love, but for some reason I find it baffling that not too many people really talk about. This is the Magnavox Odyssey², released in 1978 during the second generation of home video game consoles. Initially competing with Atari's 2600 console, the Odyssey² faced tough competition with the release of the much more powerful Intellivision and Colecovision systems during the coming years. However despite the relatively simple nature of the Odyssey² compared to these more advanced machines, Magnavox did attempt some rather innovative ideas with their console in attempt to broaden its appeal. This, coupled with the unique aesthetic of the console, really gives the Odyssey² a very charming character which makes for my favorite video game console from this generation (that is, if you completely forget that the Vectrex exists of course!).
