The classic French song “La Vie en Rose“ was originally popularized by the legendary Edith Piaf. Lucille Starrs version of “La Vie en Rose“ was recorded in 1964. The recording was a part of her album “The French Song“, which included a collection of French classics and new compositions. Starr, born Lucille Marie Raymonde Savoie on May 13, 1938, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, was a highly acclaimed Canadian singer, songwriter, and yodeler. Hailing from a musical family, she began her musical journey in the Franco-Manitoban community of Saint Boniface, where she first showcased her vocal talents in church. Her early years saw her singing with the local group Les Hirondelles, setting the stage for her remarkable career in the world of music. In 1954, she embarked on her professional career in Vancouver, adopting the stage name Lucille Starr. Two years later, she joined forces with country singer Bob Regan, her future husband, to form the country duo known as “Bob & Lucille.“ The duo caught the attention of A&M Records in Los Angeles in 1963, leading to a new chapter as “The Canadian Sweethearts.“ Starr’s powerful voice and distinctive performances, particularly the bilingual hit “The French Song“ in 1964, propelled her to international stardom. Lucille Starr passed away in the early hours of September 4, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Watch our great music videos ❯ More TopPop?
