This eventually leads to the holographic principle, where information is stored in the event horizon of each black hole. If we attempt to divide spacetime, we find that (at least conceptually) it can be divided into infinitely smaller pieces. To address the problems that this infinite division created, spacetime at the quantum level had to be renormalized by the utilization of the Planck cutoff value for the smallest wavelength oscillator, and that defines the amount of energy or information present in the structure of spacetime at the Planck scale (also called the vacuum structure). The Planck area (2D) may be described as a “bit” of information on the structure of spacetime (from the Bekenstein bound conjecture, which led to the holographic principle). Haramein generalizes this concept to a 3D Planck Spherical Unit (PSU) in order to solve gravitational equations both at the cosmological and quantum scale.
