This video lesson explains why vacuum cleaner hoses are always grooved structures. A straight rubber hose experiences local buckling when bent to reach a relatively inaccessible space, but a grooved hose made of the same material bends easily and gradually, avoiding buckling. This lesson is part of the Ansys Innovation Course: Structural Instabilities.
