History - Bennett College ( Formerly known as Bennett School for Girls ) was founded by May F. Bennett in 1890 in Irvington, NY and moved to Millbrook, NY, in 1907. The growing popularity of coeducation in the 1970s left the college in financial distress. The college closed in 1978 and was left abandoned until it was demolished in 2022.
