The Admiralty knew HMS Repulse wasn't up to the job. Prime Minister Winston Churchill knew also. And yet, the Royal Navy was in such a dire position in 1941 - fighting in the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean and now the Russian Convoys - that the veteran battlecruiser was sent to confront Japan. In Part One of this series, those who served aboard HMS Repulse remember their ship and their reactions to being to Singapore and into a fight they could not win.
