The Hi-Point 995 carbine is colloquially known as the “Planet of the Apes gun“ due to its distinctive, futuristic appearance, which some say resembles the fictional firearms used in the original “Planet of the Apes“ movies from the late 1960s and early 1970s. The original Hi-Point 995 carbines were introduced in 1995 and featured a unique, somewhat bulky design with a polymer stock that contributed to its unusual appearance.
