Seijin-no-hi is Coming of Age Day in Japan for 20 year olds. It’s a national holiday on the second Monday in January. Many young people dress up especially in kimono and go to shrines and temples. The Ogasawara-ryu holds an ancient coming of age ceremony known as Genpuku Shiki. The tradition was imported from China in the 8th Century and was first performed with the children of the aristocrat class. From ages 10-20 children would receive a cap and a new name and be allowed to assume duties at court. Centuri
