Russ Ballard - Voices In 1983, after two Communist revolutions on the island of Grenada and military build up by the Cuban and Soviet armed forces, a coalition of Caribbean states and the US armed forces invaded under the code name Operation Urgent Fury, in order to both reinstall a democracy on the island and secure the hundreds of American citizens trapped there. The invasion took less than a week, after which the US armed forces left and the Caribbean Coalition facilitated a peaceful transfer of power and oversaw a democratic election.
