Currently at a popular level in China there is a big decline in interest in traditional martial arts. There is instead a great development of the Olympic Tae Kwon Do, of the effective Muai Thai and of the brutal and lucrative MMA (also for betting). Traditional styles are increasingly cultivated only by niches of enthusiasts. An exception to this trend is Shuai Jiao, traditional wrestling, which continues to be much loved. The reasons are many and varied, first of all the deep cultural, aesthetic and parochial roots of this art (the style of one's own city is always the best). Hence the fact that many of the traditional conditioning and strengthening exercises of wrestling are also a moment of popular play and sharing.
