Gheorghe Zamfir, known as “The Master of the Pan Flute“ is a Romanian pan flute player. He played an expanded version of the traditional Romanian-style pan flute (nai). Zamfir’s big break in the English-speaking world came when the BBC religious television programme “The Light of Experience“ adopted his recording of “Doina De Jale“, a traditional Romanian funeral song, as its theme. This song reached #20 in the Dutch Top 40 on 4 December 1976. It was first broadcast on Toppop on 2 November 1976. Watch our great music videos ❯ More TopPop?
