Virginia-class submarine Montana (SSN 794) successfully competed alpha sea trials in February 2022. Alpha trials represent the very first time a ship gets underway to do what it was designed and built to do, including submerging for the first time and performing high-speed maneuvers on the surface and under water. The milestone is an important accomplishment for shipbuilders and represents a major step toward delivering the submarine to the U.S. Navy to defend our nation’s freedom.
