Presentation by . Robert L.D. Cooper on 22nd June 2021 Sir Henry Sinclair, 7th Baron of Rosslyn, died in a fierce battle in Spain in 1330 while attempting to take the heart of Scottish King Robert the Bruce to the Holy Land. After the chapel was built Sir Henry’s tomb was moved inside the building, where an engraved inscription on the stone identifies him as a Templar. When the Templar Order was suppressed by the King of France in league with the Pope, some of the Knights Templars managed to escape and took refuge in different countries, including (but not only) Scotland, where they felt safe from harassment at the instigation of the Pope, since the Scottish King had already been excommunicated anyway for some trivial offense such as having a rival murdered).
